Energy and Motion Statement
I began painting rugby in 1996, drawn not simply to the game itself but to the energy that runs through it.
The physical application of paint mirrors the energy I see on the field. Oil paint is pushed, scraped and reworked across the canvas, creating movement, tension and momentum. The common denominator is energy — in the paint and in the game.
Rugby provides a subject through which I can explore teamwork, physical commitment and the forces that bring players together in pursuit of a common goal.
Drawn From the Game
A collection of black and white limited-edition prints reproduced from original charcoal and ink drawings. These works explore the movement, balance and essential rhythms of rugby through the economy and immediacy of line.
The collection includes studies inspired by the British and Irish Lions, the Six Nations Championship and Jonny Wilkinson’s famous World Cup-winning drop goal, originally commissioned by the BBC as a retirement gift for one of its leading rugby commentators.
